Privacy Policy

Make My Date Pty Ltd (ABN 69 698 619 519) (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Our registered office is 21 Old Pittwater Rd, Brookvale NSW 2100.

This policy covers our website at datemymate.au (and the makemydate.app domain), the Date My Mate event series, and our pitch-builder platform.

1. What we collect

Depending on how you use our service, we may collect:

  • Waitlist information — name, email, city, and your stated interest (MATE, DATE, MINGLER, or venue).
  • Account information — when you create an account to access the pitch builder, we collect your name, email address, and authentication events (managed by Google Firebase Authentication).
  • Pitch content — slides, text, images, and any other content you upload to a pitch deck.
  • Information about people you pitch — if you are a MATE pitching a single friend (the DATE), we collect the DATE’s name, contact email, and any biographical details you provide about them. See section 3.
  • Ticketing information — event purchases, your contact mobile number, ticket status, door check-ins, and pitch-slot allocations. Payments are processed by Square; we do not store your full card details.
  • Sensitive information (gender) — some events hold separate ticket allocations for men, women and gender-diverse guests, so at checkout we ask which group you’ll join. Information about your gender identity is sensitive information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We collect it only with your consent, only for the purpose in section 2, and we do not require any other sensitive information to sell you a ticket.
  • Communications — email correspondence with us via hello@datemymate.au or our contact form.
  • Event photography, video and audio — at events, we and our partners may capture photos, video, and audio in which you appear. See section 8 of the Terms of Use below — ticket purchase and attendance constitute your agreement to be recorded.
  • Technical information — IP address, browser type, and pages visited via standard server logs.

2. Why we collect it

We use your information to:

  • Run and improve the Date My Mate event series and pitch-builder platform
  • Process ticket purchases, deliver tickets, and check you in at the door
  • Allow MATEs to build pitch decks and route deck approval to the DATE
  • Send transactional emails (ticket receipts, magic-link sign-in, deck approval requests, event reminders)
  • Match hosts with venues and confirm waitlist interest
  • Balance the mix of guests in the room and plan a safe, welcoming night — this is the only reason we collect sensitive information, and we do not use it to match, pair, introduce or recommend anyone
  • Comply with our legal obligations

We will only use your information for the purpose you provided it, or a related purpose you would reasonably expect.

We do not disclose sensitive information to venues, sponsors, media partners or other guests. It is visible only to Date My Mate staff running the event, and it is deleted along with the event’s other personal information once the event has passed.

3. Information about people you pitch (the DATE)

The pitch-builder lets a mate (the MATE) start a deck about a single friend (the DATE), and invites the DATE to help build it. This means we collect personal information about the DATE, and email them so they can take part. When a mate buys a Pitch Ticket, we email the DATE a sign-in link so they can add to, edit, or review the deck about them. We rely on you, the MATE, to:

  • Only start a deck about someone you know is happy to be pitched
  • Use only information the DATE is comfortable being shared at a live pub event
  • Give us the DATE’s correct email so we can invite them

The DATE has the final say. A deck is never presented publicly without the DATE’s approval, and the DATE can edit it at any time or contact us to have their details removed. If the DATE does not approve, the deck and associated personal information are deleted on request.

For DATE/DATE tickets — where two single mates pitch each other — each person reviews and approves the deck about them in the same way.

4. How we store it

Your data is stored in secure cloud infrastructure hosted by third-party providers, including Neon (database), Firebase (authentication and hosting), Zoho Mail (email delivery), and Square (payments). Some of our providers store personal information outside Australia: our database is hosted in the United States and our application infrastructure in Singapore. By using our service, you consent to this cross-border storage. We take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the platform (Square, Firebase, Neon, Zoho)
  • Event partners and venues — for example, your name on a door list, or aggregate attendance numbers. We do not pass pitch content, contact details, or personal details about the DATE to venues without your consent.
  • Third parties where required by Australian law

6. Your rights

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or request that we delete it. To make a request, email hello@datemymate.au. If you believe we have mishandled your information, you may also lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

7. Cookies

Our site may use essential cookies to support site functionality (for example, your sign-in session). We do not currently use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. If this changes, we will update this policy.

Terms of Use

By accessing or using our website, the Date My Mate event series, or our pitch builder, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. About us

Make My Date Pty Ltd (ABN 69 698 619 519) operates the Date My Mate event series and the supporting websites at datemymate.au and makemydate.app. Our registered office is 21 Old Pittwater Rd, Brookvale NSW 2100. References to “we”, “us” and “our” in these terms mean Make My Date Pty Ltd.

Our service has two parts. First, we run ticketed social events at third-party venues that are licensed to serve alcohol. Second, we operate a pitch-builder platform on which a user (the MATE) builds a short presentation about another person (the DATE), gated by a consent workflow in which the DATE reviews and approves the presentation before it is shown. Section 3 (“What we do and do not do”) sets out the scope of the service in more detail.

2. Eligibility

Our events are held at venues licensed to serve alcohol in Australia. You must be 18 years or older to attend a Date My Mate event or purchase a ticket. Photo ID may be required at the door. You must also be legally able to enter into these terms.

3. What we do and do not do

So there is no confusion about the service, this section sets out what Date My Mate is and is not:

  • We run ticketed social events at venues licensed to serve alcohol. Any alcohol is supplied by the venue under the venue’s own licence, not by us.
  • We do not screen, vet, background-check, identity-verify, or conduct any criminal history check on attendees.
  • We do not match, pair, introduce, or recommend attendees to one another. Attendees meet and interact with each other on their own initiative.
  • Our events are social events where attendees meet each other directly. We do not provide matchmaking, relationship, or personal advisory services.
  • We provide a platform for building presentations and a consent workflow that gates them. We do not verify the truth of anything a MATE says about a DATE, or anything any attendee says about themselves.
  • Attendees are responsible for their own conduct and their own decisions about who they interact with, both at the event and afterwards.

4. Your account and submissions

When you create an account or submit information (waitlist signup, contact form, pitch content), you warrant that what you provide is accurate, that you have the right to share it, and that it does not infringe the rights of others. You must not submit content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, pornographic, or otherwise inappropriate. We may remove submissions and decline future service at our discretion. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.

5. Pitching another person — DATE consent

If you (the MATE) start a pitch deck about another person (the DATE), you must:

  • Only start a deck about someone you know is happy to be pitched
  • Use only information the DATE is comfortable being shared publicly at a pub event
  • Provide the DATE’s correct contact email so we can invite them to help build and review the deck

When a Pitch Ticket is bought, we email the DATE a sign-in link so they can help build the deck about them, and they approve it before it goes on stage. A deck is not presented publicly without the DATE’s approval. The DATE can edit the deck at any time, or contact us to have their details removed; if the DATE does not approve, the deck and associated data are deleted on request. For DATE/DATE tickets, each of the two single mates builds and approves the deck about them in the same way.

6. Tickets, refunds and cancellations

Tickets are sold per event subject to capacity and the tier you select (DATE/DATE, MATE/DATE, or Mingle).

For some events we hold separate allocations of each tier for men, women and gender-diverse guests, so the room stays balanced. The group you select at checkout determines which allocation your ticket is drawn from. It does not change the price, what your ticket admits you to, or anything about how the night runs.

  • Refunds — you may request a refund up to 14 days before the event date and we will process it within 10 business days.
  • Transfers — within 14 days of the event, tickets are not refundable but are transferable to a friend (subject to the eligibility rules in section 2). Contact us at hello@datemymate.au to arrange the transfer.
  • If we cancel — if we cancel an event for any reason, you receive a full refund. We are not liable for incidental costs you may have incurred (for example, travel or accommodation).
  • No-shows — tickets are not refundable if you do not turn up.
  • Pitch tickets — if you purchase a MATE/DATE or DATE/DATE ticket and the DATE you intend to pitch declines to approve their deck, the same refund and transfer rules apply.

Nothing in this section limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

7. Code of conduct at events

Date My Mate is a social event in a licensed venue. By attending, you agree to:

  • Treat everyone present — fellow guests, hosts, venue staff — with respect
  • Not harass, intimidate, or behave aggressively toward any other person
  • Comply with the venue’s house rules, including responsible service of alcohol
  • Follow reasonable instructions from event organisers and venue staff
  • Not discriminate against, harass or demean any person on the basis of their gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, age or disability
  • Respect how people describe themselves — deliberately misgendering someone, or disclosing someone’s gender identity or sexual orientation without their consent, is a breach of this code

We and the venue reserve the right to refuse entry or remove anyone whose behaviour breaches this code, without refund.

8. Photography, filming and audio recording at events

By purchasing a ticket to or attending a Date My Mate event, you agree that you may be photographed, filmed, or audio-recorded at the event, and you grant us a royalty-free licence to use that material for the following purposes: promoting and operating the Date My Mate event series, our website at datemymate.au, our social channels (for example our Instagram @datemymate_au), our email marketing, and event highlight material. This applies to ticket holders and their guests admitted on a ticket.

Prefer not to be photographed? Let us know when you arrive — ask the host or door staff for a no-photo wristband. We’ll make reasonable efforts not to knowingly photograph, film, or record anyone wearing one, or to publish footage in which they are identifiable. In a busy venue we can’t guarantee you’ll never appear in the background of a wide shot, but the wristband tells our team and photographers to leave you out.

We will not knowingly use material in a way that is harassing, defamatory, or that misrepresents you.

If you are identifiable in a photo, clip, or recording and you ask us to remove it, we will. Email hello@datemymate.au and we will remove the material from the channels we control within 5 business days of your request. We cannot recall material that has already been downloaded, re-shared, or redistributed by third parties beyond our control.

9. Payments

Ticket payments are processed by Square, a PCI-DSS compliant payment provider. We do not store your full card details. Your payment is also subject to Square’s own terms.

10. No guarantees

The service is provided “as is”. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, specific event outcomes, or that you will meet or connect with any other attendee. Any live event you attend is at your own risk and subject to the venue’s terms.

11. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties and limit our liability to the re-supply of services or the cost of having them re-supplied. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.

13. Changes

We may update these terms or our privacy policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent changes. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated terms.

14. Contact

Questions about these terms, our privacy practices, refunds, or removal of personal information can be sent to hello@datemymate.au.
